Stairlift features

Swivelling seat

Swivelling stairlift seat

When you reach the top of the stairs, you’ll need to swivel the seat to get off safely. There are two options:

  • Manual swivel: you use the handles to move the seat
  • Powered swivel: you use the seat controls to move automatically.

Folding footplate

To make sure the staircase is clear for other users, the footplate and seat can be folded up.

Calling and parking

All stairlifts come with two remote controls – one to leave upstairs and the other downstairs. This lets you move your stairlift without sitting on it, parking it where you want or pressing a button to call it like a lift.

Types of track

Hinged tracks

Freecurve stairlift

Some houses have a door near the bottom of the stairs, so Handicare can fit a hinged track to avoid blocking the door. These hinged tracks come in two options

  • Manual hinge: this means you’ll need to raise and lower the track by hand. However the hinges are designed to make this as easy as possible.
  • Powered hinge: some of the stairlifts featured in this brochure are available with an automatic powered hinged track – your technical surveyor will be able to show you which ones. These stairlifts will lift or lower the track automatically when it’s in use. When you’re not using your stairlift, the track can be folded simply by holding a button on your remote control.

Slide tracks

Freecurve stairlift

If you’re having a straight stairlift, it can be fitted with a slide track. This means you won’t need a hinged track as it moves up and down the staircase at the same time as the seat.

Just like the powered hinge, the slide track works automatically when your stairlift is activated. The slide track is slightly shorter than your staircase so this means the track will move with you.

FAQ

Below are a few of the questions customers often ask about Age Co Stairlifts;

Is government funding available?

Your local authority provides information on Disabled Facilities Grants and is obliged to give you this if your circumstances fit the criteria. You can pick up an application form from your local authority. Please note timescales from one area of the country to another may vary and this is a means-tested service.

Does the stairlift fit to the wall?

No, it’s a common misconception that stairlifts are installed to the wall. This is not the case, the stairlift will be installed on the staircase itself. The technical surveyor will advise which side of the stairs will be most convenient for the stairlift to be installed on.

How long will it take to install the stairlift?

If the stairs are straight it will normally take around 2–3 hours. If the stairs are curved then it can take around half a day.

How fast will the stairlift go?

These stairlifts are designed to operate to the speed governed by British Standards. This is equivalent to a gentle walking pace.

Do you have a buyback policy?

Handicare do not repurchase stairlifts as the product is bespoke to you and your property.

If I wish to replace my carpets can I do so?

Yes – Contact Handicare Service & Maintenance Team on 03700 118 282 and they will arrange for an engineer to come and remove the lift, then reinstall once your carpets have been fitted. Please don't attempt to remove the lift yourself or ask anyone other than one of our engineers to remove it. Please note there is a charge for this service.

Service and support

An Age Co Stairlift provides real value. Not only do Handicare provide high quality and reliable stairlifts, they also provide a no-quibble price promise. If you find a similar product with equivalent specification and service levels at a lower price, let Handicare know and they will happily match it. Please note however that they can only match prices obtained following a site survey conducted by a reputable company, not those based on a verbal indication of price given by another company without surveying the staircase concerned.

For your additional reassurance, the price match guarantee is valid up until the day that your stairlift is installed.
