Before the cost of living crisis, 2.1 million older people were already living below the poverty line. And for many, things have only got worse. 

Across the country, people are faced with impossibly difficult decisions about how to use what money they have.

Information and advice 

You can't claim money you don't know you're entitled to. Last year, our information and advice helped 6 million people to make decisions about their finances and helped them find out if they're missing out on money.

Age UK's Advice Line is open every single day of the year. For many, it's a lifeline.

Knowing what to do and where to turn if things go wrong or you need answers you can trust can be difficult. But our friendly advisers are just a phone call away.

In 2022, our advice line answered 52,337 calls about money matters from people that turned to Age UK.

We offer support through our free advice line on 0800 678 1602. Lines are open 8am-7pm, 365 days a year. We also have specialist advisers at over 120 local Age UKs.

Support in the community

Many programmes run by local Age UKs have helped people in local communities across the country know what they're entitled to. 

Local Age UKs helped older people identify about £162 million in unclaimed benefits from March 2021 to March 2022. Friendly staff can help you complete a benefits check and fill out tricky forms. 

Help to keep your home warm

Our Warm Home Programme completed more than 20,000 benefit checks and nearly 3,983 home energy checks, identifying more than £38 million in unclaimed benefits.

Keeping your money safe

It's just as important to keep what money you do have safe. Our scams programme helps people spot the warning signs and avoid being scammed.

We make sure older people's voices are heard
