Response to updated Hate Crime Action Plan

“Any crime against an older person is shocking. While older people are generally less likely to be victimised than many other age groups, the consequences can be particularly serious in terms of the impact on health and confidence, sometimes triggering a move into residential care. Yet victimisation because of age is not currently considered to be a hate crime. We therefore welcome the announcement of this review.

“We would urge any older person who has been the victim of any crime to report it to the police and to seek help if they need it from organisations like Victim Support.”
