Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK and co-Chair of the Care and Support Alliance, said:
“As a country we’ve certainly reached a pivotal point in how we look after people who need our support. There are some big choices to make about whether we carry on with a means-tested approach or shift to making care free at the point of use, like Scotland. But the most important choice of all is the one facing the Government: will they step up and use their forthcoming Green Paper to sort out care for older people once and for all, or effectively ‘bottle it’, like so many other governments have done before? This Green Paper is a fantastic opportunity that must not be allowed to slip away.”
