Age UK comment on long-term care for dementia

Michelle Mitchell, Charity Director at Age UK, said:

'For too long there has been a failure to provide the funding and services needed to support people suffering with dementia and their families. Sadly, many people are struggling to cope, forcing them to send loved ones into care homes where staff often lack the training to meet the demands of dementia.  With the number of people living with dementia set to increase to one million by 2025, services need to be improved and better training needs to be given to all healthcare staff to care for people with this disease.  This will not only improve the quality of life of people with dementia, but help reduce pressure on our hospitals and care homes.'
