Older people are now more willing to embark on holidays beyond their 80th birthday, research reveals.
Customer research released by Age UK Enterprises shows that people aged 80 and above purchased nearly a third of its travel insurance policies in 2011.
Around a fifth of sales involved consumers aged between 70 and 74. The same was also true of those in the 65 to 69 age category.
The organisation indicated that the number of sales of annual trip insurance policies involving people aged 50 and above has gone up by 20% in the last three years alone.
And it said that more than half of the over-80s buying insurance cover are heading to Europe for their holidays.
Gordon Morris, managing director of Age UK Enterprises, said it is not right for insurance firms to impose maximum age limits on their products.
He stated: 'People should be able to fulfil their travel aspirations - no matter how old they are.
'This is why it's so important they can access products like Age UK travel insurance, that have no upper age limit and provide appropriate cover for their needs.'
