Age UK Exeter helps save project for older men

A project for older people in Exeter has been saved, thanks to generous donations from people who gave up their Winter Fuel Allowance.
It was feared that the Museum Project, which gives older men who enjoy learning, ideas and history the chance to meet up regularly for discussions, outings and other opportunities, would fold due to a lack of funds.
But fantastic efforts by Age UK Exeter have helped to secure the future of the project. A number of people came forward and donated their Winter Fuel Allowance as part of the charity's annual appeal.

'It is a great feeling to know this vibrant and interesting group will continue throughout 2014,' said group co-ordinator, Tracey Baker.
'The members can stop worrying now that it will fold and be able to concentrate on all the things we hope to do and take part in over the next 12 months.'
The Museum Project started out as a weekly meeting in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum but has since gone on to become a project in its own right.
Members get together every Thursday morning at the Imperial Hotel, while special outings are organised throughout the year.
Age UK Exeter launched its Annual Appeal in late 2013, hoping to raise £18,000 to secure the futures of this and many other community groups, alongside providing social company for older people in their own homes.

'All donations have been very welcome and it is with relief that our low key, yet vital, community groups can continue with public support,' said charity director Martyn Rogers.
'People have been very generous, and I have been very moved by the support we, as a local charity, have received.
'While we wouldn't want anyone to financially struggle because they made us a donation, those individuals who have donated their Winter Fuel Allowance can know that the museum project continues because of their generosity.'
