Centenarian record attempt to mark Grandparent Day

David Amess MP is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of centenarians to celebrate Grandparents Day this Sunday 5 October.

David Amess MP warmly encourages all centenarians to attend his annual Tea Party, which will be held on Grandparents Day Sunday 5 October 2014 between 2 - 4pm at Nazareth House in Southend.

Following on his success in establishing a World Record for gathering 28 centenarians in 2009, David Amess will attempt to set a new record this Sunday. His previous record was included in the Guinness World Records Book.

David's record was broken in 2013 by Regency Nursing & Rehabilitation Centers in Somerset, New Jersey, USA; the event in the United States attracted 31 centenarians.

A record to celebrate people in later life

This year's record-breaking attempt will be undertaken in partnership with Age UK in Essex and the public will be encouraged to make donations to support older people.

David commented: 'I am delighted to support the Grandparent's Day Initiative by hosting a world record breaking Centenarians Tea Party in my constituency. Many of the Centenarians attending will be Grandparents, Great Grandparents or maybe even Great Great Grandparents!

'With the support of many dedicated volunteers and local companies, as well as our partnership with Age UK, I expect this party to be a wonderful and memorable occasion.
