This year, 86 people ran the Virgin Money London Marathon for Age UK, pushing their bodies to the limit to raise money for older people with no one to turn to.
Our heroes
Our video captures the emotion and elation of the day, while celebrating the achievements of those inspirational individuals. They included:
- Tom Harrison, our oldest person around the course at 82.
- Maggie Atherton, 79, who was running her 21st marathon, having previously done them in New York and Greenland.
- Simon Middleton, who must have already been aching, having set himself a target of seven marathons in seven days.
- Nicky Hayes, who was our fastest runner on the day, making it through the 26.2 miles in 3 hours 25 minutes and 19 seconds.
Getting involved in 2020
If watching our video inspires you to get involved in 2020, there’s still a way for you to run it for Age UK. Firstly, if you didn’t manage to enter the ballot for next year – which has now closed – we’ll have 82 Gold Bond places for Age UK runners.
