Our strategy
Our strategy for 2019–2023 is focused on finding ways to better support the older people who need us the most.
Why we exist
Age UK is here to provide advice, support and friendship to older people. But with a growing ageing population, many of our older generation are struggling more than ever. Our new strategy is designed to help us focus on being there for the older people who need us the most.
The need we're addressing
- 2 in 5 people aged 65 and over in England are in poor health.
- 3 in every 20 older people aren’t getting the care and support they need to lead a dignified life.
- More than a million older people are living in bad housing.
- At least one in every 10 people aged 65 and over in England is in poverty.
- 800,000 people aged 65 and over are lonely, and 600,000 people aged 65 and over are socially isolated.
Almost 6 million older people in England are facing serious challenges, often without the support they need. We're determined to be there for them, but we need your help to make that happen.
Our strategic priorities for 2019-23
Put front and centre the older people who need us most
Many of the older people who need us the most struggle every day and feel they have no one to turn to. Age UK will be here to help.
We'll focus on making the most difference for them, while continuing to work in the interests of all older people.
Help local communities through enduring local support
The older people who need us the most rely on local services, amenities and support to make their lives better. Age UK will help ensure that local support continues to be there for them.
The Age UK network is unique in how it transforms local lives. But demand has never been so great, while sustainable funding is scarce. We will do more to help local Age UKs be there for the older people in their communities.
Boldly ask for help and support
Age UK will inspire people to join our cause so that together we can do more for the older people who need us most.
We work in partnership with supporters, campaigners, volunteers and likeminded organisations. But we need more people and organisations to donate their money, voice and time to our cause.
Our values
Our values shape the way we work to achieve our objectives for older people. They're at the heart of everything we do.
