Supporting older people during challenging times

It’s great to be ending the year with the positive news that a vaccine to immunise against Covid-19 has been developed and will be rolled out in the coming months.
It’s also a good time to thank everyone who has looked out for an older friend, neighbour or loved one during what has been a very challenging year. Whether you were helping with shopping, picking up prescriptions, or simply providing a friendly ear at the end of the phone, your support was vital for many older people.
Please continue supporting older people in your community as the next few months will no doubt prove to be just as challenging as last year. Being neighbourly not only helps to keep older people safe but it also provides a warm reassurance that there is someone there to help them should they need support.
If you’re thinking about the ways you can help out in your community in 2021, why not take a look at the range of volunteering opportunities on the Age Cymru website, from making friendship calls through our Friend in Need service to delivering Tai Chi classes – there’s something for everyone.

Here’s hoping that 2021 will be a brighter year for all of us as we work together to help bring about the changes that will deliver an age friendly Wales.
