Opening of a new veterans' centre (Woody's Lodge)
Amelia Trust Farm, Five Mile Lane, Barry, CF63 3AD
Friday 19 October 2018 - 11:30am to 1.30pm
Media representatives are invited to attend the official opening of a new Woody's Lodge at the Amelia Trust Farm near Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Woody's Lodge is a charity providing safe spaces for armed service veterans, recent leavers, reservists and those who served in the emergency services to socialise and access a range of health and social services.
Formerly based at HMS Cambria in nearby Sully, the new enhanced Lodge will be better equipped to support more veterans and their families from across south east Wales.
A key element of the Woody's Lodge approach is to offer veterans time and space to be themselves and interact with people who have similar experiences. There's always a warm welcome and a 'brew' to help break the ice for new visitors.
The Lodge moved to Amelia Trust Farm to gain access to more space and activities for both veterans' and their families. Visitors will have access to art and wood working rooms, animal husbandry, allotments and conservation work in addition to lots of green, open space in which visitors can talk and relax.
Woody's Lodge is also a partner in Project 360° along with Age Cymru and Age Alliance Wales. The partnership enables the Lodge alongside the other partners to improve support services for older veterans across Wales.
The success of Woody's Lodge in the Vale of Glamorgan has prompted the Project to establish a new lodge at the Eiras Community Park in Colwyn Bay, Conwy for veterans based across north Wales.
